Evelyn Crowell Scholarship
Evelyn Crowell Endowed Scholarship Established with a Gift of Real Estate
Retired educator, Evelyn "Evie" Crowell is passionate about helping students advance their learning and life opportunities, especially when it comes to pursuing higher education. Evie's annual scholarship for African American students at PCC fulfills her lifelong vision of inspiring young people. Evie's career was in library education and services at leading institutions, including Fisk University, Linfield College, and Portland State University. As the first member in her family to attend college and later, a single parent who raised a son and a daughter in Northeast Portland, she knew firsthand the struggles to secure a quality education and establish a successful career. Said Evie, "as a librarian in higher education, it was thrilling to work with students and watch the light bulb turn on in their faces. Through my career and now as a PCC donor, I touch people's lives. I've enjoyed it immensely."
Evie recently decided that she like her PCC scholarship to continue in perpetuity. To achieve this goal, she donated undeveloped property jointly to the PCC Foundation and PSU Foundation. Upon being sold, the proceeds will establish named endowed scholarships at these respective institutions.
The PCC Foundation is grateful to Evie for her support via her restricted annual scholarship for Black American students, and for this new gift of real estate to the PCC Foundation. Her foresight and philanthropy will forever create life opportunities for others in their pursuit of higher education.
